Online training and certification module for Market research: ‘Microlaunch’
RARE offers a unique online simulation tool for students, young researchers and marketing trainees, learning them to develop, launch and track a new brand by applying marketing insights.
Designed by Mike Roe, a British researcher, the simulation is based on a Unilever product development case study. It carries the endorsement of the MOA (Dutch Expert Center for Marketing Insights, Research & Analytics) as well as the UK Market Research Society and is a 2018 UK Award-winner for its gamified software.
‘Microlaunch’ challenges participants to apply qualitative & quantitative market research techniques and to put them in the correct sequence, while remaining within budget. Participants learn to launch a new brand from the concept phase till the introduction to the market.
The training simulation tool comprises two different scenarios: launching a product or launching a service. Each scenario can be given as a course, or as an exam. The simulation runs in 3 stages: ‘Study → Apply → Learn’ and can be completed in about 1 hour.
Participants learn to construct 6 sequential studies to gain the required insights for marketing decision-making during a new brand development program. Their choices are evaluated at each stage. If correct, an ‘Insight Report’ is delivered. Eventual errors are ‘fined’. A final performance review is provided, showing money spent, eventual errors and time taken to complete the simulation. In this way, ‘Microlaunch’ brings market research to life, demanding different research solutions to answer varied marketing innovation needs. Successfully bridging the ‘theory/practice’ divide in training, simulation participants say: “great learning; great fun!”
